If you didn't already know, BarterDex is a p2p exchange that works via on-chain atomic swaps. You always hold you keys, there is no middleman, no servers, no KYC, no website, no proxy-tokens, the orderbooks are fully decentralized. It's like the BitTorrent of DEX.

Moreover you don't need to download the full blockchains, all coins work in SPV mode as long as they have electrum servers setup, also if you want to skip confirmation times you can put some Komodo in a security deposit (this is the only instance where Komodo is required) and then trades take ~10 seconds or less.

There were some posts in this sub here and here, at the time when BCH was to be integrated. Since then many improvements have been done, more coins have been added and now Eth/Erc20 are about to be integrated in the gui.

BarterDex has worked in beta for months and so far almost 90k trades have been done by normal users.

Next month there will be two important milestones.

One is the first decentralized ICO: the atomic swap tech will be used to buy and distribute assets directly to investors, without need of registration, website or other centralized points of failure. The first few dICOs will require help from Komodo team but the whole process is going to be completely automated, I expect their number will greatly increase after that.

The second milestone is the release of the first simple gui, expected in april (save roadblocks). The only available BarterDex gui has some learning curve and many advanced options. Since its release it allowed months of live testing by normal users but it was never designed for mass use. In fact there are different gui in development, both from Komodo team and from third parties.

With a more accessible gui and the beginning of dICO, BarterDex is going to step up its game in both adoption and marketing.

What can BarterDex do for BCH ?

Let me explain: atomic swaps are quite demanding on the blockchains of the coins involved. Each trade takes 7 separate transactions, 3 on the buyer blockchain and 4 on the seller blockchain. It's likely the market will single out the coins with high on-chain throughput that can cope with such demand. BCH is one of the natural candidates for this position.

On the contrary BTC gets automatically disabled when the mempool is full, because it makes atomic swaps confirmation too much unreliable (not counting the higher fees!). This already happened in december. Now BTC is working again but we know it's a matter of time before the story repeats.

If BarterDex is successful as a p2p exchange and if dICO take a share of the ICO market from Ethereum and other platforms, BCH could become one the most sought after coins as general trading pair and for ICO fundraising and dividends payment.

The only thing missing is BCH liquidity. BarterDex needs BCH marketmakers, a lot of them, to provide liquidity and to profit from the bid/ask spread. This is especially interesting to already experienced traders with plenty of BCH. There are also two features that pro traders will love:

1. There are no Dex fees for sellers (though you pay normal blockchain transaction fees).
2. With the same funds you can place multiple orders on different markets. The first that gets filled cancels the others.

There are more things in the works, like arbitrage with centralized exchanges and the new core marketmaker 2.0, but they're still months away. BarterDex already works fine as it is. All that is needed is keeping it running 24/7 with funds and orders. Here's are some specific guides for LP:

For LP it's better to use full wallet rather than Spv, because it's faster, especially on Windows. Keep it updated and stay tuned for the new gui. This is going to be a game changer!
