It seems like BCH would be a better storage platform for ETH NFTs than IPFS

Is anyone doing this, or am I missing some reason it doesn’t work? A cheap transaction to store e.g. a base 64 encoded image permanently on the BCH blockchain seems a lot more reliable than IPFS pinning for as long as the minter pays a subscription to a third party service. Surely there would be a way to surface the image in a DApp.
